An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure
– Benjamin Franklin
Two and a half centuries ago when Benjamin Franklin coined that proverb there is no way that he could have known how it would apply to technology in today’s world. At First Service we know exactly what he meant; that being ready for a crisis is better than trying to figure out how to fix it as it’s happening. That’s what informs our approach to internet security, being ready. The security solutions that we have built and learned over the past three decades allow us to pass on our “ounce of prevention” to you, so you don’t have to pay for “a pound of cure”.
One of the most economical and reliable ways to protect your network is to use a firewall. The ability to set rules that are custom tailored to your business means that these items are as flexible as they are powerful. Next Generations Firewalls (NGFW’s) also provide new technologies like Intrusion Protection Services, and Content Filtering and Monitoring that keep you one step ahead.
Virtual Private Networks (VPN)
Businesses have the security to broadcast their private network across public networks. Essentially, a VPN allows access to private networks (like your company’s intranet) when an employee needs remote access. Employees still need the appropriate credentials to access the network, so your files and data remain secure.
Malware and Virus Security
Viruses and Ransomware have been in the news a lot lately for good reason. Malware, Virus, or Ransomware infections can be catastrophic for businesses that deal in sensitive information. As another facet of our Managed Services suite your computers and servers can be outfitted with the latest virus detection software.
Backup and Disaster Recovery
When was the last time that you had a really solid backup plan? No, not for your career, for your data! There is a great amount of confidence in knowing that you have a spare copy of your data in the event of a drive failure. Adding a backup and recovery device to your managed services plan is a great way to keep ahead of disaster.
Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM)
As part of the suite of services offered by our Managed Services portfolio clients have access to 24/7/365 monitoring center. Our Network Operations Center (NOC) notifies First Service at the first sign of trouble, oftentimes allowing us to fix issues before they’re even apparent to you or your team.
Prying eyes are trying to get a look at your data. Make sure they can’t by encrypting where necessary.
A specific key is first used to encrypt the data. Then the data is unlocked using either the same key (symmetric-key) or using a matching key-pair (public-key).
“In Transit” encryption keeps personally identifiable data and proprietary information safe when sent.
Keep files stored on mobile devices like laptops and tablets protected with “at rest” encryption.
Users are not granted access until they provide multiple proofs of identity.
Ex. – An ATM asks for two proofs before dispensing money. First the physical card (possession) and then the PIN (information). Without either proof authentication fails.
Without one of the factors a user is unable to access the data, protecting from both accidental access and unauthorized access.
Microsoft Active Directory
One of the most difficult aspects of building a network is finding a way to make sure people are able to access the information they need. Too much access leads to chaos, not enough hinders progress.
In order to access information on a network people have to have the correct authorizations. That way people have access to the resources they need, and only what they need.
First Service will configure the Active Directory with a hierarchy of access permissions. Easily add or remove permissions as people transition from one position to another.
